Britain for Europe is an independent "pressure group and umbrella organisation for "pro-EU grassroots campaign groups based in the "United Kingdom which lobbies in favour of the "United Kingdom remaining in the "European Union.
The current Chair of Britain for Europe is Tom Brufatto. Unlike many political campaign and pressure groups, Britain for Europe is unique in being driven by its grassroots members, and steered by an elected council, and is not run from the top-down by a national executive. It is the only key national pro-European group to be operated this way.
Formed in 2016, shortly after the "United Kingdom European Union membership referendum, 2016, as an umbrella organisation for pro-European grassroots groups, Britain for Europe has grown in size significantly and currently represents 50 local groups and thousands of grassroots campaigners.
Since its formation, Britain for Europe has been involved in campaigning against "Brexit, and in favour of pro-European causes. Notable and initiatives that it has supported include successfully campaigning for Amendment 7, which called for Parliament to have a meaningful vote, and 1 Day Without Us which is an annual event that demonstrates solidarity with migrants in the UK, in addition to organising a series of events at the 2017 Party Conferences and a national march to Parliament
Working in partnership with other pro-European organisations, such as "European Movement UK and "Scientists for EU, it organises action days, conferences, and lobbying sessions with the aim of securing a vote on the terms of the Brexit deal that would include an option to remain. Among its high profile supporters are "Chuka Umunna and Mike Galsworthy.
In 2018, key targets for Britain for Europe will include lobbying for both a Parliamentary and public vote on the deal, a national celebration of "Europe Day, coming together with other national pro-European organisations, and a large national march to Parliament, among others.
On 15 April 2018 it was announced that Britain for Europe and eight other pro-European groups, including Open Britain and European Movement UK, were now operating from a joint office in London under the title "People's Vote in April 2018 to campaign for a second vote.
Located within "Millbank Tower, which has hosted offices for the Labour Party, Conservative Party, and United Nations, this joint office will be the new HQ for the remain movement. The aim of the new campaign working from the office is to ensure that the British people are given a first vote on the terms of the Brexit deal, with an option to remain in the European Union.
