Kizhakkambalam panchayath is ruled by an organization called "Twenty-20 which is sponsored by a commercial organization called Kitex. In the local body election held in November, 2015, 17 out of 19 wards of the local Panchayath were won by "Twenty-20. The aim of this organization is to make Kizhakkambalam a model village by the year 2020. They have built many roads and drinking water projects inside the village. The organization also leads an anti-alcochol campaign in the village.[2]

Criticism of the corporate takeover[edit]

Some intellectuals like former Parliament Member Sebastian Paul are worried that the take over of the local body by a corporate group can lead to a negative sort of politics. Companies can have vested interests and they can manipulate local bodies to serve their interests. Environmental activists like C.R.Neelakantan point out that the Kitex group started political activism after they were caught red-handed in pollution issues. There are many allegations against Kitex company among the people who live here. The pollution made by company led to many large-scale protests. Previous panchayath administrations withdrew the license of company. But the company made a party and participated in election. [3]
