Less than a week from now Team GB rower Polly Swann will be back in her role as an NHS junior doctor, despite competing in an Olympic final today.

The medic, who won silver in Rio in 2016 as part of the women's eight, narrowly missed out on a podium spot this time around with 'comeback mum' partner Helen Glover in the women's pairs.

The duo finished fourth behind winners New Zealand, the Russian Olympic Committee, and third-placed Canada.

Speaking to Dan Walker and Samantha Quek on BBC Olympics this morning, Swann confirmed that she'd be resuming her medical training in just a few days' time.

The University of Edinburgh graduate was among the junior doctors who answered the call for frontline workers during the height of last year's pandemic.

Swann was working at St John's Hospital, Livingston, during the pandemic fightback last year and believes the duo's story is unique in the rowing world.

Unlike her partner, Glover, who has ruled out a return to the water at Olympic level Swann, who has been both a World and European Champion during her GB Rowing Team said she will continue to go for a medal.
