We found the embarkation point easily (it's a little west of the restaurants in the Cove area of Port Canaveral) and were greeted by a friendly, capable crew who sailed us out of the port's inlet and onto the near shore of the nearby beach. The water was calm, smooth and with a fresh breeze, something quite welcome on even a decently warm day on the Space Coast.
SpaceX's ships moored at their docks were pointed out, and we got excellent views of one of the bargest where they land their boosters after a launch. We also go to see one of the boats that greets and picks up returning astronauts, and it was quite a thrill to know that these were an active part of American spaceflight.
Once we got towards the ocean, there were all kinds of seabirds: osprey hunting and carrying fish back to their nest for dinner, pelicans, even a kite. Pods of dolphins were everywhere, and one came quite close to our boat.
This all as the sun was setting over the shoreline. The colors were spectacular.
All in all, this was a great time, not only for tourists visiting out area but also for those of us who call the area home. We will for sure be back.
